What to consider
Checked 24 October 2026 using the US App Store listings. SleepMix is the app behind this website; BetterSleep is an independent product and prices may change.
Two different starting screens
The BetterSleep listing highlights hundreds of sounds, meditations, SleepTales and a sleep tracker/recorder. The SleepMix listing focuses on building a sound blend with individual sliders, saving it and controlling a bedtime timer.
If you open a sleep app to hear a narrated story, SleepMix is unlikely to replace that library. If you want to repeat one carefully balanced noise mix, a large content menu may be unnecessary.
Consider tracking carefully
BetterSleep describes a sleep tracker and recorder. SleepMix has a seven-day Insights view based on its own playback routine, stored on-device according to its implementation. These are not the same kind of observation.
Choose whether you want an app to record night sounds or simply remember which mix you played. Read each product’s current privacy disclosures before enabling a feature that gathers data. The App Store listing is the current public source for those claims.
Make a one-week trial practical
On night one, set up the sound or story you would naturally choose. Notice how much work it takes to start again on night two. Check whether the timer is easy to find and whether the app resumes the same material after a phone lock.
Avoid comparing a paid feature in one app with a free screen in the other without noticing that difference. Current trial and purchase terms may change.
About the sound libraries
BetterSleep advertises a much larger catalog, including music and narrated material. SleepMix has more than 50 sounds and curated blends. A large catalog can be valuable for exploration; a smaller one can make a routine quicker if the sounds you need are present.
No listing establishes which recordings you personally find more comfortable. Listen on your own output device at a low level rather than deciding from counts alone.
Disclosure and decision
This comparison was checked against the US App Store listings on 24 October 2026. We publish SleepMix, and BetterSleep is not affiliated with this site. We have not conducted a physical-device benchmark of either app.
Choose BetterSleep for stories, guided material and its described tracking tools. Choose SleepMix when you want direct sound layering, saved presets and bedtime controls without that larger content focus.
A plain choice
Want a voice to tell a tale at night? Start with the app that has the tales you like. Want to set a few sounds and play the same mix each night? Try SleepMix. Check how each app works when the phone is locked. Then read the store terms. A long feature list is less useful than a calm two-tap task you can repeat.
